Statement: Ulli Krull Installation as Vice-President and Principal of UTM
The following is a statement by Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie during the installation of Professor Ulli Krull as Vice-President and Principal of the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM):
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council – I am honoured to join in today’s installation of Professor Ulli Krull as Vice-President and Principal of the University of Toronto Mississauga.
“Let me recognize President Meric Gertler; Chancellor Michael Wilson; Dean Amrita Daniere; along with the professional staff, brilliant faculty and inspiring student body who are UTM.
“On this day when we celebrate the leadership and future of a world-class academic, researcher and scientist – it is only fitting that I quote the wisdom of another famed scientist: Albert Einstein.
“It was Einstein who said: “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.”
“Today, Professor Krull makes the permanent transition into the leadership role of Vice-President and Principal.
“The good news for all of us is that wherever he goes; whomever he meets; Principal Krull will always be in a position to awaken joy and challenge students, staff and faculty to think differently; question existing theories; push boundaries; reach higher and to build a future that makes history.
“This is the University of Toronto, after all.
“Undoubtedly you will continue to undertake research in your lab and mentor active minds the way you always have, as a cherished member of the Department of Chemistry; your classroom now extends throughout campus and beyond the borders of UTM.
“You are a trusted thought leader.
“As Mayor of Mississauga, I can say with complete confidence that Council and staff take immense pride in your counsel.
“When UTM succeeds, Mississauga succeeds.
“Council continues to reaffirm its commitment to UTM.
“UTM is a valued partner in city building, and you have played a central role in developing our unique relationship.
“As we look toward the future, I cannot think of a better way to mark UTM’s 50th anniversary, than with the installation of Principal Krull.
“All of Mississauga celebrates with you and we look forward to working together to build a brighter future for both Mississauga and UTM.”
