Statement on the Passing of Ron Lenyk

The following is a statement by Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie on the passing of Ron Lenyk, CEO of the Living Arts Centre, and former Citizen of the Year:

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I offer my deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Ron Lenyk, during this difficult time.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them, along with the thousands of people across Mississauga, that Mr. Lenyk touched throughout his many years of unwavering and dedicated community service.

“We are incredibly saddened by the loss of this larger than life individual who committed himself to making Mississauga a more welcoming and dynamic place to call home.

“There are few who can equal Mr. Lenyk’s commitment to this City, his passion for his job as head of our world-class Living Arts Centre, or the amount of time he has given back to Mississauga over the years as the long-time publisher with The Mississauga News, and as a community volunteer.

“In 2001, he was chosen as Mississauga’s Citizen of the Year. This honour rightly recognized Mr. Lenyk’s many years of dedicating his time, talent and infectious enthusiasm toward community initiatives.

“He was a friend, and a colleague, and I know I speak on behalf of the City of Mississauga when I say that Mr. Lenyk will truly be missed.

“The flags at the Civic Centre and all City facilities have been lowered and will remain at half-staff until after the funeral.”
