Mississauga Given the Green Light to Enter Stage 2

“I’d like to thank the province for giving Mississauga the green light to enter Phase 2 starting this Wednesday, June 24. This is the right decision and the right time for Mississauga to further reopen our economy. I know today’s news will be welcomed by both residents and businesses who are eager to get life back to our new normal.

Today’s decision recognizes the significant progress we’ve made as a Region over the past three months. This is no small feat, and it is thanks to the actions of our entire community and that of Peel Public Health that we are where we are today; thank you.

Friends and family will once again be able to enjoy a cold beer on a patio, a dip in the pool, play a game of soccer, or get a haircut with their favourite stylist or barber. Our local businesses who are our friends, neighbours and family members, will need our help to get back on their feet after what has been a very challenging time.

Mississauga has a plan to reopen our facilities and amenities included in Stage 2 and will work to roll these out in the weeks to come. I look forward to providing more details at my press conference tomorrow morning.

While we celebrate this important milestone today, we must commit to keeping COVID-19 prevention top of mind and making it a part of our daily lives. The pandemic is not over. Wash your hands, don’t touch your face and wear a mask in places where distancing is a challenge. These simple actions will help reduce the severity of a second wave. Our people and our businesses cannot afford to do this again. Let’s continue to work together as team Mississauga to keep our city healthy and safe.”
