STATEMENT: Mayor Crombie Responds to Deadly Gun Attacks

September 12, 2022

“Like many residents across Mississauga, Toronto and Milton, I am in utter shock and devastated in light of today’s deadly gun attacks that claimed several lives and others in life-threatening condition. In the wake of this tragedy, I want to offer my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones who lost their lives in this unimaginable tragedy. My thoughts are with the victims in hospital and their families, and I pray for their quick and full recovery.

Police are working diligently across jurisdictions to find answers as to how and why these events transpired. I want to thank the police services of Peel, Halton, Hamilton and the OPP for working together in this multi-jurisdictional effort to quickly apprehend the suspect and ensure no further harm to the community.

I also want to thank Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services and Peel Paramedics who quickly attended the scene and cared for those who were injured. We owe a debt of gratitude to our first responders who put themselves at risk every day to keep our community safe.

I encourage anyone who witnessed today’s violent attacks to access the mental health supports that are available 24/7 through the Crisis Support Peel Dufferin at 905-278-9036.

Peel Police will provide further updates as soon as they are available.”
