STATEMENT: Mayor Crombie Announces Leave of Absence
I’ve announced that I will be taking an unpaid leave of absence as the Mayor of Mississauga as I continue in my bid to become Ontario Liberal Party leader. My last day in the Mayor’s office will be Friday, October 6, 2023.
This was not an easy decision and I want Mississaugans to know that I remain deeply committed to the community I cherish and have had the honour of serving for nearly a decade. In the coming weeks I will be working closely with our City Manager to review top priorities for Council in the coming months, including next year’s budget.
In my absence, Council will take turns as Acting Head of Council, stepping up to handle key responsibilities like chairing Council and Committee meetings and representing Mississauga at official city events.
I trust that our Council will continue to press forward on the issues that matter most to us all including affordability, housing, transit, and the battle against climate change.
That includes extending your generosity if you are able, to our neighbours in need this Thanksgiving by supporting the Mayor’s Thanksgiving Food Drive in support of Food Banks Mississauga.
And to all Mississaugans, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your understanding, kind words and support. As I embark on this journey, please know that your priorities will always be at the forefront of my mind.
This is not goodbye, it’s see you later.
