“I am honoured to be recognized as a progressive leader by the Pearson Centre for Progressive Policy. I am humbled to be recognized in such esteemed company as Victor G. Dodig, President and CEO, CIBC, Julia Deans, CEO, Futurpreneur, Bob Blakely, Canadian Operating Officer, Canada’s Building Trades Unions, and Roberta Jamieson, President and CEO, Indspir.
“As the Mayor of Ontario’s third largest city, with a population approaching 800,000, It is critical that I be progressive and forward-thinking in how I approach city-building. As Mayor, I must ensure that our residents continue to experience a quality of life second to none, that our infrastructure is well-maintained, and that our transit and essential services that our residents rely on continue to keep pace as our City grows. This is a responsibility that I do not take lightly.
“Progressive leaders understand the power of collaboration and work to ensure that everyone has a seat at the decision-making table. I’d like to thank our leaders within the City of Mississauga, in particular, our City Council, along with those outside our corporation, including community organizations, business leaders and residents who have worked with me over the past four years to move the needle forward on a number of innovative initiatives.
“From the Diversity and Inclusivity Action Committee to the Climate Change Action Plan, to the innovation and entrepreneurship hub at Sheridan College, and our City’s social procurement policy, we are working to ensure that Mississauga thrives, and we are doing it together.
“At the end of the day, we all want the same things for our City. Residents want to live or work in a city that we are proud to call home, and we want to do so, comfortably. I look forward to the opportunity to be your Mayor for the next four years so that we can continue to build a world-class city where residents live, people meet and tourism, business and innovation thrives.”
