Statement Marking Orthodox Christian and Eastern Catholic Christmas

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, we would like to extend our best wishes to Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholics for a very Merry Christmas.

“Christmas is a much anticipated and most joyous occasion. People in churches throughout Mississauga – and in towns and cities across Canada – turn to scripture, hymns and prayer to reflect on the Nativity of Jesus.

“For all Mississaugans, Christmas and the holidays are a time for families, friends, and neighbours to come together, reflect on cherished moments from the months past and make new memories.

“The Christmas season is also a time for personal reflection and to celebrate the lives of loved ones that we have lost, and who we continue to remember in our thoughts and prayers.

“With so much uncertainty around the world, we are blessed to call Mississauga home. This blessing is further realized during the Christmas season, where we wish peace and goodwill to all people and all communities.

“I would like to further recognize the dedicated residents who volunteer their time, talent and treasure toward helping those in need of extra care and support. In particular, I want to thank all local charities, non-profit organizations and faith communities, who work year-round to care for those in need of safe shelter, a warm meal and a helping hand.

“Once again, from all of us at the City of Mississauga, we wish you a very Merry Christmas.”
