Statement Marking International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia: Mayor Crombie
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, we join with cities from around the world to mark the occasion of International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
“Mississauga is a place where the LGBTQ2S community can be safe, have dignity and confidently participate in civic life; where members are welcomed, invited and encouraged to be true to themselves.
“Last July, we officially raised the Pride Flag at Celebration Square. It was an opportunity for all people to come together to reflect on and celebrate the positive and lasting city-building contributions made by the LGBTQ2S community.
“As we prepare to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation and our nation’s founding, it is incumbent upon all of us to ensure that Canada’s future will continue to be shaped by the bedrock principles of equal rights, freedom, tolerance and respect.
“These values are what make Mississauga, and cities and towns throughout Canada, safe and inviting places to call home.”
