Mayor Crombie’s Statement Marking Eid al-Adha

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I join with all residents who will celebrate Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice.

“During Eid al-Adha, Muslims in Mississauga, and in communities around Canada, will come together and strengthen their faith by joining in prayer services and reflecting on the guiding principles of Islam.

“Eid al-Adha is a time when family, friends, and neighbours undertake acts of goodwill and generous charity toward individuals in need of additional care and support.

“I recently joined Members of Council, along with community and business leaders, to take action to better engage the public about helping those suffering from the global Syrian migrant crisis.

“In particular, I would like to recognize members of our Muslim community who attended this meeting, and who issued an “Eid Challenge”, calling on each mosque to raise $50,000 during Eid celebrations this month.

“Mississauga’s diversity is our strength. We are fortunate to be home to people of different cultural backgrounds and faiths, equally committed to elevating the quality of life for our world-class community.

“Eid Mubarak.”
