Crombie Freezes Mayor’s Salary
The following is a statement from Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie:
“Today during the budget committee meeting, I took the appropriate steps to freeze my salary. Council supported my request for me to forgo the automatic economic adjustment contained in the Council remuneration by-law.
“I am truly honoured to have been entrusted with the mandate to serve as Mayor of Mississauga, and I believe that finding savings during these 2015 budget consultations, means leading by example – and it starts with me.
“As part of the City of Mississauga’s effort to ensure continued savings and to safeguard funding for the things Mississaugans value most, I wrote all Members of Council on January 20th, 2015, to inform them that I had chosen to freeze my salary at the current 2014 rate, for the remainder of this four-year Council term.
“We are moving forward with a budget plan that respects taxpayers’ hard-earned money, while at same time safeguards investments for important City priorities – from our extensive MiWay public transit network to our popular community centres.
“I look forward to continue working alongside all Members of Council to achieve important results for the people of our great City.”
