Statement by Mayor Crombie Recognizing Rosh Hashanah
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I offer my best wishes to all residents observing Rosh Hashanah and the Jewish New Year.
“On this day, Jewish families in communities across Canada will take part in one of the holiest days of the Jewish calendar. It is an opportunity for family, friends, loved ones and neighbours to come together, reflect on the past year, and look toward the promise of new beginnings.
“Rosh Hashanah also marks the first of the High Holy Days. It is an important and enriching period for Jewish families to strengthen their faith and renew their fidelity to the timeless teachings, values and principles of Judaism.
“Mississauga’s diversity is our strength. We are fortunate to be home to people of different cultural backgrounds and faiths, equally committed to elevating the quality of life for our world-class community.
“As we also celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation and our nation’s founding, we further reflect on the important, compassionate and enduring social justice work undertaken by our faith communities to care for our most vulnerable citizens.
“Once again, I wish all residents celebrating Rosh Hashanah a prosperous New Year.
“Shana Tova Umetukah!”
