Statement by Mayor Crombie on Yom Kippur
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Council, we join with all citizens observing Yom Kippur, the most sacred and holy day in the Jewish calendar.
“This evening family, friends, loved ones and neighbours in Mississauga, and in communities across Canada, will fast and gather at synagogues to celebrate and renew their faith, and participate in enriching prayer.
“During Yom Kippur, members of the Jewish community will personally reflect on, and be guided by, the principles of atonement and repentance in preparation of the Jewish New Year.
“As we look toward the New Year ahead, let us all continue to commit ourselves to showing respect and tolerance toward one another. Together, we are building more welcoming communities where people, of all faiths, are free to live their lives in peace.
“G’mar Chatimah Tova.”
