Statement by Mayor Crombie Marking the Beginning of Passover 2017

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I join with all residents observing Passover; a most sacred time of reflection, prayer and time with friends, family, neighbours and loved ones.

“This evening marks the beginning of Passover which spans a solemn eight day period, for the Jewish community.

“During this time, Jewish families will come together to commemorate the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt and their freedom under the leadership of the prophet Moses.

“My best wishes to all those gathering around the Seder table as they renew their faith and further seek to understand and appreciate the lasting and enriching principles and teachings of Judaism.

“In Mississauga we celebrate the diversity of our residents, their different cultures and faiths. Through faith, we come together through the shared and cherished values of peace, love, tolerance, respect and compassion.

“As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of our nation’s founding, let us all remember how cities and towns across Canada have been enriched by faith communities and spiritual leaders, undertaking important social justice work each day to elevate the quality of all citizens.

“Chag Sameach.”
