Statement by Mayor Bonnie Crombie Marking Philippine Independence Day
The following is a statement by Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie marking the occasion of Philippine Independence Day:
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I proudly join with Mississauga’s Filipino community to commemorate the 118th anniversary of Philippine Independence.
“Mississauga has an important relationship with the Philippines. We have an active, engaged and thoughtful Filipino population which has, and continues to make, important and valuable contributions to the City of Mississauga and across the country.
“Our shared interests, values and priorities are equally linked by a shared understanding and appreciation for culture and the arts.
“Mississauga’s Celebration Square, our City’s leading gathering place, is a popular venue to hold Filipino cultural events. During these festivities residents from Mississauga, and throughout the Greater Toronto Area, gather to enjoy the lasting cultural contributions, genres and famous performing artists inspired by the Philippines.
“Once again, I join with Mississauga’s Filipino community to mark Philippine Independence Day. It is my hope that the bond between Mississauga and Filipino communities continues to grow.”
