Remarks by Mayor Crombie: Cyclone Manufacturing Incorporated Funding Announcement

The following are remarks by Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, during today’s announcement by Minister Navdeep Bains, that Cyclone Manufacturing Incorporated, which operates in Mississauga, will receive up to $8 million from the Federal Economic Development Agency of Canada (FedDev), which has the potential to create up to 135 new full-time jobs:

“I am honoured to be here today. In Mississauga, we understand and appreciate the importance of a thriving aviation industry.

“Mississauga has a lengthy and rich aviation history, stemming back to the original Malton Airport, to the production of the cutting-edge Avro Arrow.

“I want to congratulate Andrew Sochaj, President of Cyclone Manufacturing Inc and Buz Forbes, Controller; your company has earned this investment.

“I want to acknowledge and thank Navdeep Bains, Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and our very own Mississauga-Malton MP; along with Mississauga-Streetsville MP, Gagan Sikand.

“You are demonstrating commitment to our City, showing leadership, and making this important investment here in our community.

“I have repeatedly committed to working with Mississauga’s new Members of Parliament and the Trudeau government, to help ignite new opportunities to generate economic development, and create jobs.

“I am confident that today’s announcement is only the beginning.

“The City of Mississauga has a strong voice in the federal government, with local leaders like Minister Bains, MP Sikand and all our Members of Parliament.

“As Andrew Sochaj can tell you, the aerospace industry is an important pillar of Mississauga’s thriving local economy.

“Today, Cyclone Manufacturing is one of 215 different aerospace companies that choose to invest, grow, compete and succeed in Mississauga.

“The aerospace industry is responsible for 25,000 jobs in Mississauga.

“Mississauga is home to the largest aerospace cluster – by total employment – across all major Canadian centres.

“Mississauga’s aerospace – product and parts manufacturing sub-sector – is the largest across all major Canadian centres.

“Needless to say, I cannot talk about the promise of our aviation industry without discussing the important place Pearson Airport has in our City, our province and our nation.

“Pearson Airport is responsible for helping facilitate 277,000 job-creating opportunities for Ontario’s economy.

“Pearson is also responsible for countless other direct and indirect economic development opportunities for Mississauga and in communities throughout Ontario.

“Today’s investment will ensure Mississauga remains a national and global leader in the aerospace industry.

“Congratulations once again, to the team of professionals from Cyclone Manufacturing, on earning this important investment from the Trudeau government.

“We all look forward to continue work with Minister Bains, MP Sikand, and the new Trudeau government.

“Thank you.”
