Outpouring of Support from Jame Masjid Mosque for City-Wide Food Drive: Mayor Crombie

On behalf of the entire team of staff, leadership and volunteers who work each day with The Mississauga Food Bank, we offer our heartfelt and sincerest appreciation to the faith community from Jame Masjid Mosque for standing up for neighbours in need and by taking an active leadership role in raising food, funds and awareness for the Mayor’s 2017 City-Wide Food Drive #OneBagChallege, Mayor Bonnie Crombie said today.

Basir Mohammed, President, Jame Masjid, said “All members of the Jame Masjid Mosque were enthusiastic about the opportunity to donate their time, talent and money toward ensuring the Mayor’s 2017 City-Wide Food Drive in support of The Mississauga Food Bank would exceed its fundraising and food goals. Families came together and took the #OneBagChallenge. Beyond the Thanksgiving season we remain committed to helping hungry neighbours in need year round, in addition to our many other charitable projects. In addition to our contribution of 10,000 pounds of rice to the Mayor’s Food Drive, we have given over $60K towards relief of the Rohingiya in Burma, $25,000 towards helping refugees in Syria, and over $10,000 towards relief for flooding in North Bangladesh.”

Mayor Crombie would like to extend an invitation to you to join us at the 2017 Mayor’s Citywide Food Drive campaign wrap and results announcement today – Wednesday, October 18th at 4:00 PM.

This year’s campaign goals were to raise $125,000 and 225,000 pounds of food from September 16 – October 13. Achieving these goals would make it the Mississauga Food Bank’s biggest Thanksgiving ever.
