Orthodox Christian and Eastern Catholic Christmas Statement by Mayor Crombie
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I join with Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholic families to mark the Christmas season.
“Christmas is a much anticipated and celebrated occasion. Churches throughout Mississauga, and in towns and cities across Canada, reflect on scripture readings, sing hymns and participate in the retelling of the Nativity story, the birth of Jesus Christ.
“The virtues of peace, compassion and generosity embody the Christmas season. In particular, I want to thank the charities, non-profit organizations, faith communities, and all volunteers, working tirelessly to help settle Syrian refugee families to Canadian communities.
“For all Mississaugans, Christmas and the holidays are a time for families and friends to come together, reflect on cherished moments, and make new memories.
“It’s also a time for personal reflection and to celebrate the lives of those loved ones that we have lost, and continue to remember in our thoughts, hearts and prayers.
“Once again, I offer my very best wishes for a Merry Christmas.”
