Momentum Continues on Final Day of #OneBagChallenge: Mayor Crombie
Mississauga – On what is the final day of our 2016 Mayor’s Citywide Food Drive #OneBagChallenge, I am overwhelmed by the ongoing momentum, support and donations that we have received from citizens, community groups and businesses from throughout the city, Mayor Bonnie Crombie said today.
Last year we well surpassed our fundraising and food donation goals and this year I know we can do it again, Mayor Crombie added, citing a number of recent generous donations including:
- $10,000 from FLATO Developments Inc
- 10,000 pounds of food and $5,000 donated by the faith community from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamat
- 10,000 pounds of rice donated by the Jame Masjid Mosque
- 5,000 pounds of food donated by Mona Fine Foods
All food and monetary donations collected as part of the Mayor’s Citywide Food Drive #OneBagChallenge go to The Mississauga Food Bank to be administered and distributed to their agency partners.
Shakir Rehmatullah, President of FLATO Developments Inc, said “I am pleased to see the initiative taken by Mayor Crombie and we at FLATO Developments are happy to support the Mississauga Food Bank.”
Mayor Crombie added that “the day is still young and there is still plenty of time to get involved and make a lasting difference.”
“I encourage all residents to take part in the #OneBagChallenge and be part of this citywide effort to help local families and residents in need of additional care and nourishment.”
Last month Mayor Crombie took to social media and released a #OneBagChallenge video nominating 5 people to make a donation to The Mississauga Food Bank within 48 hours. Once the nominated person had either donated food or made a donation online, they were asked to post a picture or video on social media showing that they participated and then challenge five other people to do the same.

Residents are asked to drop off non-perishable food donations at their local fire stations, grocery store or The Mississauga Food Bank.
This year’s Food Drive Challenge aims to raise $100,000 and 200,000 pounds of food by the end of the day.
The Mayor’s Food Drive Challenge is generously sponsored by Tim Hortons of Mississauga, Rabba Fine Foods, Mississauga Board of Trade, COBS Bread and Bell. For more information, please visit http://www.themississaugafoodbank.org/thanksgiving.
“I want to once again thank everyone in advance for their willingness to participate and their compassionate generosity to help neighbours in need,” Mayor Crombie concluded.
