Statement: Mississauga Committed to Diversity and Inclusion Through New Advisory Committee

Mississauga, ON — Mayor Bonnie Crombie made the following statement today following Council’s decision to create the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee.

“I am pleased to have voted with my fellow City Councillors today to create the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (DIAC). Mississauga is a diverse, dynamic and vibrant City and it is important that City Hall reflect our population and changing dynamics.

“Throughout my time in public service, and in particular during the recent election, I made diversity and inclusion priorities, including committing to creating this committee.  As our City grows and changes, it is imperative that the voices of all residents are heard and that we are making decisions with the full knowledge of how they will affect everyone.

“I am confident that this Committee will provide Council with guidance in our decision making to ensure we are meeting the needs of all residents and perhaps more importantly, that City Hall is reflective of our residents. By creating this committee, Mississauga joins many other cities across the country with similar committees dedicated to diversity and inclusion.

“Whether you have been here for 20 years or 20 days, you deserve to have your voice heard at City Hall and know that your government is looking out for you.”
