Mayor Crombie’s Statement on the Seventh Anniversary of the End of the War in Sri Lanka

“This week marks the seven year anniversary of the end of the war in Sri Lanka. On this occasion, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy and support to the Tamil community in Mississauga.

“As we reflect on the horrors of war and commemorate all of the lives that were lost and have been affected, we remind ourselves of our common humanity and shared commitment to protecting human rights and ensuring that events like this never happen again.

“Diversity is one of our biggest and most dynamic strengths as a world-class city. Tamil-Canadians have made important and lasting contributions to across Canada and are an integral part of the fabric of Mississauga. Our City is a more inclusive and dynamic place because of the efforts of the Tamil community.

“At the City of Mississauga, we created the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (DIAC). Made up of residents from different cultural backgrounds and important community stakeholders, DIAC undertakes real work and help to guide Council decisions through the lens of diversity.”
