Mayor Crombie’s Statement on Sikh Heritage Month
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, it gives me great pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to Mississauga’s Sikh community in recognition of Sikh Heritage Month in the province of Ontario.
“While in India for a trade mission earlier this year, I had the opportunity to visit the Harmandir Sahib, or the Golden Temple, as it is often referred. It is considered the holiest Gurdwara in the world for Sikhs and was both breathtaking and serene. It was an honour to visit a site of such great importance to the Sikh faith.
“Mississauga is a world-class city home to residents, of different cultural backgrounds and faiths, and our Sikh population is one of our most dynamic, active, and engaged communities, which has enriched all of Mississauga.
“Sikh Heritage Month provides an opportunity for all Canadians, of all backgrounds, to learn about the lasting contributions Sikhs have made throughout history as nation builders.
“During Sikh Heritage Month, the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA), in collaboration with the Sikh Foundation of Canada, is hosting an entire month of free special events, exhibits, and activities for all Mississaugans to enjoy.
“Throughout April, I encourage all residents to experience the wealth of history, sacred literature, and lasting teachings, which exemplify the Sikh faith.”
