Mayor Crombie’s Statement on Ramadan
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I join with our local Muslim community to recognize the beginning of Ramadan, which commences this evening.
“The holy month of Ramadan is a solemn period of personal sacrifice, thoughtful reflection, and deep prayer. It is an opportunity for Muslims to renew their commitment to their faith.
“The importance “Zakāt” which embodies the generous virtues of charity, compassion, and goodwill toward those less fortunate, is a welcomed and celebrated pillar of Ramadan.
“As families gather to renew their faith at neighbourhood mosques throughout Mississauga, let all residents remember how truly fortunate we are to call Mississauga home.
“Ours is truly a world-class city that welcomes residents of all faiths and beliefs to worship freely.
“Ramadan Mubarak.”
