For Immediate Release
MAY 25, 2018
The following statement was made by Mayor Bonnie Crombie following the explosion at the Bombay Bhel Restaurant at Hurontario Street and Eglinton Avenue on the night of May 24, 2018
“This is not the Mississauga I know.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
“This is an unspeakable and senseless crime perpetrated against innocent people in a restaurant, a place they should feel safe. As a mother, it is even more troubling to me that children were present during the attack. I am extremely thankful that there have been no fatalities and those in hospital are in stable condition receiving the care they need.
“I have been in contact with Police Chief, Jennifer Evans since early this morning and will continue to provide whatever assistance the police need to apprehend these criminals.
“This is an active police investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Peel Police investigators at 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at (905) 453-2121, ext. 1233. Information may be left anonymously at Peel Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by visiting www.peelpolice.ca
“The criminals behind this act need to be brought to justice quickly.
“ I would like to thank all of our first responders, Peel Regional Police, Peel Paramedics and Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services for quickly responding to the scene and ensuring the victims received the best care possible.
“I would like to thank Prime Minister Trudeau, Premier Kathleen Wynne and Mayor John Tory for calling to offer their thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families, as well as any assistance needed during this difficult time.
“Mississauga remains one of the safest cities in Canada, a title we’ve held for almost 20 years. This was an isolated incident. This crime has shaken us, but it will not break our resolve as a community.”
