Mayor Crombie’s Holi Statement

“Namaste.

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, it gives me immense pleasure to join our City’s vibrant Indian community to celebrate Holi.

“At the heart of Holi festivities, is the ushering in of the spring season.

“With spring come blossoms of vibrant colours from budding flowers; trees; fruits; vegetables; and other natural splendours.

“Holi reminds us that our environment is gift and that it is incumbent upon all of us to be responsible stewards for future generations to enjoy.

“Historically, for India’s farmers, Holi marked the opportunity to plant for future harvests; grow food and ensure nutrition; prosper through commerce; and provide for one’s family and community.

“We celebrate spring as a time of new beginnings and new opportunities for the year ahead.

“By listening to music; partaking in dance; the lighting of bonfires; and the spraying of colours – families; friends; neighbours; and loved ones, come together, make new memories, and celebrate the significance of Holi.

“Our City is a more inclusive and dynamic place because of the efforts of our Indian and broader South Asian communities.

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and my family, I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and enriching Holi!

“Shubh Holi!”
