Mayor Crombie’s 2016 Vaisakhi Statement
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I extend my best wishes to Mississauga’s Sikh community on the joyous occasion of Vaisakhi.
“The holiest day in the Sikh Calendar, Vaisakhi is a period to remember and reflect on the founding of the Khalsa Sikh community in 1699, which continues to flourish because of the devotion shown by generations of Sikhs who are so committed to their faith.
“As Sikh families gather to celebrate Vaisakhi, we are given the opportunity to reflect on the valuable contributions that the community has made to the city, and to the country.
“During Sikh Heritage Month, the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA), in collaboration with the Sikh Foundation of Canada, are hosting an entire month of free special events, exhibits, and activities for all Mississaugans to enjoy.
“Throughout April, I encourage all residents to experience the wealth of history, sacred literature, and lasting teachings, which exemplify the Sikh faith.
“Once again, I offer my best wishes for a happy and memorable Vaisakhi – Vaisakhi diyan vaadiyan!”
