Mayor Crombie Marks the Beginning of Hanukkah 2017
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I join with residents to mark the beginning of Hanukkah, which symbolizes the virtues of perseverance, hope and faith.
“Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights and the Feast of Dedication, is observed in part by singing hymns, the playing of dreidels, and with the lighting of menorahs.
“During this eight-day holiday, families will gather to celebrate cherished time together, make new memories with one another, and renew their fidelity to the timeless and enriching teachings of Judaism.
“This year marked the 150th anniversary of Confederation and our nation’s founding. As we look to the New Year ahead, we further reflect on the important, compassionate and enduring contributions made by our faith communities.
“For all Mississaugans, Hanukkah is an opportunity to better understand and appreciate the contributions our Jewish community has made toward building a dynamic, engaging and inclusive city and nation.
“Mississauga’s diversity is our strength. We are fortunate to be home to people of different cultural backgrounds and faiths, equally committed to elevating the quality of life for our world-class community.
“I wish everyone a very memorable, celebrated and blessed Hanukkah.
“Chag Hanukkah Sameach!”
