Mayor Crombie Marks the Beginning of Hanukkah 2016

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, we join with residents to mark the beginning of Hanukkah, which symbolizes the virtues of perseverance, hope and faith.

“During this eight-day holiday, families will renew their fidelity to the timeless and enriching teachings, prayers and readings that embody Judaism.

“Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights and the Feast of Dedication, is observed in part by singing hymns, the playing of dreidels, and with the lighting of menorahs.

“Families will gather to celebrate cherished times together, make new memories with one another, and look toward the promise of the New Year ahead.

“For all Mississaugans, Hanukkah is an opportunity to better understand and appreciate the contributions our Jewish community has made toward building a dynamic, engaging and inclusive city and nation.

“I wish everyone a very memorable, celebrated and blessed Hanukkah.

“Chag Hanukkah Sameach!”
