Mayor Crombie Marks Republic Day of India
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I join with our City’s active, engaged and thoughtful Indian community to recognize Republic Day of India.
“On this day, we commemorate an important period in India’s rich history, when the nation’s constitution officially became law.
“During this time, the people of India took an important step forward – charting their own future as a respected, independent nation. Republic Day of India endures as an important milestone for the world’s largest democracy.
“Each day men and women of Indian descent make lasting city-building contributions to our community as public servants, volunteers, educators and successful entrepreneurs.
“Mississauga is home to a significant Indian diaspora and as a result, we have the potential to open our City to a great deal of Indian investment. The strong cultural connection’s Mississauga has to Indian cities provides a tremendous opportunity to generate new local economic development opportunities here at home.
“Tomorrow, I depart for India. I will join Premier Wynne as part of the 2016 Ontario Business Mission to India. Through our active participation during this trade mission, we will further promote economic development opportunities, the exchange of knowledge and best practices, and celebrate a far greater appreciation and understanding of Canada and India’s enriching cultural traditions and shared values.”
