Mayor Crombie Discusses City-Building with Local Italian-Canadian Community
Mississauga’s promising future continues to be shaped by a number of transformative new mixed-use developments, Mayor Bonnie Crombie said Tuesday during a keynote address to members of the Mississauga Italian Canadian Benevolent Association (MICBA). Joining Mayor Crombie were Councillors Carolyn Parrish (Ward 5), Nando Iannicca (Ward 7) and George Carlson (Ward 11).
“Inspiration Lakeview, Inspiration Port Credit, 1 Port Street and the new 72 acre West Village development – inspired by the Inspiration Port Credit Plan- are changing the face of south Mississauga forever,” Mayor Crombie added. “These plans will usher in exciting new ways for people to fully embrace and appreciate the untapped potential of our sprawling waterfront. Mississauga still has far too many unrealized views of Lake Ontario.”
“Vision Cooksville, Dundas Connects, and Downtown 21 are plans for world-leading residential and commercial communities that will shape Mississauga’s future identity in much the same way Chicago’s waterfront redefined the Windy City.”
And when we say we’re going downtown, it will be to downtown Mississauga, Mayor Crombie added, highlighting new developments like M City – a 10-tower, 15-acre, 4.3 million square foot community. M-City will include over two-acres of public parkland and has been inspired by the City of Mississauga’s own Downtown21 Master Plan. M-City will join other planned developments from Amacon, Daniels, Camrost, and Solmar, to name a few. “There’s a buzz in our city.”
“The Shaping Ninth Line initiative, Britannia Farms and MyMalton plans are exciting efforts that will ensure distant and emerging neighbourhoods are tightly woven into the fabric of Mississauga’s everyday life; that no one is left behind and that communities like Churchill Meadows, Lisgar and Malton are welcoming gateways.”
Mayor Crombie also spoke at length about the City’s current budget planning process, highlighting savings of nearly $52 million over the past decade. Crombie also used the occasion to highlight the Mayor’s Small Business Forum taking place tonight at City Hall, adding that “all small business owners are invited and encouraged to share their ideas and solutions to help make local government work better for you.”
As part of our ongoing efforts to support small business owners, I encourage local entrepreneurs to make workplace mental health a priority by completing the MindsMatter assessment tool, Mayor Crombie said. “My office has partnered with the Healthy City Stewardship Centre and CivicAction to raise awareness about this online tool and the need to address such an important health issue that continues to impact the lives of so many people.”
