Mayor Crombie Congratulates New Peel Police Board Chair Amrik Ahluwalia

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie issued this statement following the election of Mr. Amrik Singh Ahluwalia as the new Chair of the Peel Police Services Board:

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I would like to congratulate Mr. Ahluwalia on his election as the new Chair of the Peel Police Services Board.

“Mr. Ahluwalia is an educated individual, accomplished business person and respected community servant. His extensive private-sector experience will be invaluable as the entire Board manages what is in the best interests of Canada’s third-largest municipal police force, and the public safety of Mississauga and Brampton residents.

“Mr. Ahluwalia will help the Board build on the reforms and progress we made last year, including undertaking a comprehensive review and overhaul of the practice of street checks. I look forward to working with Chair Ahluwalia and the entire Board to ensure our police service is progressive and responsive to the community it serves.

“Working together, we will continue to support our brave men and women in uniform, while at the same time implementing policy solutions that elevate Peel Police’s reputation as a modern, effective and respected police force.”
