Mayor Crombie Congratulates New Parliamentary Secretaries

The following is a statement by Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie in response to today’s news that Prime Minister Trudeau has announced the appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries:

“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I would like to congratulate the Members of Parliament who have been appointed as Parliamentary Secretaries, and who will have further responsibilities to move the Trudeau government’s policy agenda forward.

“In particular, I would like to further recognize:

  • Mississauga Centre MP Omar Alghabra, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Consular Affairs);
  • London West MP, Kate Young, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport;
  • Honoré-Mercier MP, Pablo Rodriguez, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities;

“The new Trudeau government has committed to quadrupling federal investment in public transit; invest nearly $6 billion over the next 4 years, and $20 billion over 10 years in green infrastructure, to generate economic development opportunities.

“These are new and unprecedented opportunities for municipalities, and now it is time to get to work. The priorities of Mississauga are the priorities of the majority of Canadians.

“We will press for Council goals including the Missing Link – a plan that will facilitate all day, two-way, GO Train service, on the Milton line and open up the continental gateway allowing for the better movement of goods and people. The Missing Link is a project of national scale and scope.

“I believe when we work to achieve real results for the people of Mississauga, all of Canada is better position to grow, prosper and succeed.”
