Mayor Bonnie Crombie Marks Labour Day 2016
“Today, Mississauga residents celebrate Labour Day with family, friends and neighbours, marking the end of summer holidays. As we gather together this day, it is important that we reflect upon the sacrifices made by men and women of Canada’s labour movement and their historic struggle for workers’ rights.
“For over 100 years we have had the privilege to commemorate Labour Day as an achievement for the struggle to achieve fair wages, standard working hours, a safe and healthy work environment, and most importantly, the rights and respect of all workers.
“Let us all extend our sincerest appreciation to the Canadian labour movement for their tireless efforts to give us the workplace we have all come to expect – and for all they have done to make our society and our economy stronger.
“Council remains committed to ensuring that the City of Mississauga remains one of the top employers in Canada, respecting all employees by providing a safe and welcoming workplace.
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I wish all residents a safe, happy and memorable Labour Day.”
