June is Senior’s Month – a great opportunity to celebrate the contributions of Mississauga’s older adults and to highlight the services and programs available in our community to assist older adults to live as independently as possible.

I encourage residents to check the City of Mississauga’s older adult website for information about events at community centres and libraries at www.mississauga.ca/olderadults.

A sample of celebrations include: the City of Mississauga Older Adult Talent Lunch and Amateur Talent Show on Tuesday June 16 at the Mississauga Valley Community Centre; and the Mississauga Older Adult Appreciation Week which runs from June 14 to 20. During this time activities and refreshments will be offered at community centres throughout the city.

In an ongoing effort to make older adults a priority in Mississauga, in January 2015, the City created the Older Adult Advisory Panel.  Its purpose is to involve seniors directly in sharing information and advice with City staff in developing and improving older adult services.

In its first year, the panel will be participating and providing input in a number of exciting projects, including launching an annual older adult education symposium.

Mississauga is proud of its older adult community and all Members of Council are committed to ensuring our seniors’ community are active, engaged, and enjoy an unrivaled quality of life.
