The Crombie Column is my new blog that will feature ongoing posts about issues, events and initiatives from the Mayor’s Office and the City of Mississauga. I’m delighted that my first post is about Heart House Hospice.
In 1985, Heart House Hospice opened its doors and began undertaking its vision to make a meaningful difference to someone’s end-of-life experience. Today, Heart House Hospice services 1,000 individuals with a terminal diagnosis and thousands of family members and loved ones in Mississauga and Brampton on an annual basis. For thirty years, Heart House Palliative Care frontline healthcare professionals have supported over 10,000 people.
Last weekend I attended the Heart House Hospice A Night in Hollywood Gala – a fundraiser in support of this tremendous organization. I could not think of a more appropriate theme than Hollywood.
We gathered to celebrate the incredible work undertaken by local celebrities. You won’t see their names on the big screen but each day, the men and women of Heart House Hospice, are stars in the lives of families and patients who depend on their professional service and guidance. The team from Heart House Hospice provide comfort, compassion, emotional and spiritual support, to residents who know that their lives are coming to a close.
That night, it was formally announced that I would serve as Honorary Chair of the Bring It Home Campaign – the $18 million capital campaign for Heart House Hospice to build a residential hospice in Mississauga.
I am committed to help see this vision become a reality. I have always said Mississauga is a City that cares, and the compassion of our people thrives in organizations like Heart House Hospice. I am honoured to be part of their team.
