This past weekend I participated in Carassauga 2015 celebrations – Mississauga’s festival of culture. Over half of all Mississauga residents were born outside Canada; our people speak a remarkable 200 different languages. In Mississauga we celebrate the diversity of our people, their cultural backgrounds, and faiths.

This year marked the 30th anniversary of Carassauga – a significant milestone of success. Since its founding in 1985, Carassauga has grown to become one of Mississauga’s most popular events – attracting residents from across the Greater Toronto Area.

Continued popularity has led to a significant increase in the number of enchanting world showcase pavilions for all people to enjoy.  This year we had an amazing 28 pavilions representing over 70 cultures located in various cultural and recreation centres throughout Mississauga.  In 2015 we welcomed Ireland to our world-showcase. Sláinte to my Irish friends!

My special thanks to the volunteers, organizers and leadership, like Executive Director Linda Siurtra, for all they do each year to make Carassauga a memorable experience.

Finally, I wanted to thank our pavilion hosts for opening their doors to our community and showing tremendous hospitality to all visitors.
