$25,000 Pledge from Community Partners for Food Drive #OneBagChallenge
We have seen a tremendous outpouring of support from individuals, businesses and community groups from across Mississauga who are giving back to support hungry neighbours in need by taking part in the Mayor’s 2017 Citywide Food Drive, Mayor Bonnie Crombie said today.
“I especially want to single out Ayub Hamid, Shami Munir and Dr. Hamid Slimi for pledging $25,000 to The Mississauga Food Bank as part of our annual Thanksgiving campaign,” Mayor Crombie added.
To date, more than half of all donations have been collected from the $25,000 pledge. Food donations are being collected today by The Mississauga Food Bank.
Chris Hatch, Executive Director of The Mississauga Food Bank added, “We are so grateful to Mayor Crombie, Mississauga residents and our community supporters for once again rallying our community together during the Thanksgiving season.”
“At our mayor’s call, it became incumbent upon us to respond for two reasons: firstly Allaah commands us to cooperate in the righteous acts; and secondly, helping the needy is one of our two foremost Islamic duties,” Ayub Hamid, President and Chair of the Board, Muslim Neighbour Nexus.
“K-Mobile is proud to announce their collaboration with the citizens of Mississauga to initiate a fundraising event to raise funds and food for The Mississauga Food Bank. Our vision is to give back to our community by providing more jobs and opportunities with up to 250 new locations and 1000 jobs across Canada. This will allow us to take our city towards its next chapter,” Shami Munir, President and CEO, K-Mobile.
Mayor Bonnie Crombie has shown leadership on many fronts especially in reaching out to all the diverse communities. We, at Sayeda Khadija Centre, are a regular supporter of The Mississauga Food Bank and we are also pledging $10,000 and a minimum of 20,000 lbs of food in support of this noble campaign,” Dr. Hamid Slimi, Imam, Resident Scholar and Founder of Sayeda Khadija Centre.
Mayor Crombie would like to extend an invitation to you to join us for The 2017 Mayor’s Citywide Food Drive campaign wrap and results announcement today – Wednesday, October 18th at 4:00 PM.
This year’s campaign goals were to raise $125,000 and 225,000 pounds of food from September 16 – October 13. Achieving these goals would make it The Mississauga Food Bank’s biggest Thanksgiving ever.
