Mayor Crombie Marks Lunar New Year 2016
The following is a statement by Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie marking Lunar New Year 2016:
“On behalf of the City of Mississauga and Members of Council, I join with Mississauga’s Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese communities to celebrate the joyous occasion of Lunar New Year.
“Whether it is Seollal to Korean residents, Chinese New Year or Tết for families of Vietnamese descent, Lunar New Year is an opportunity for all residents to reflect on the important and lasting city-building contributions Mississauga’s Asian-Canadian community continue to make as volunteers, public servants, entrepreneurs and business people.
“Each Lunar New Year is a welcomed opportunity for personal renewal. A time for all people to undertake resolutions, overcome challenges, and enrich their lives for the better.
“2016 marks the year of the monkey. It is said that this animal represents intelligence, humour, and positive, outgoing characteristics. These are important traits that can help guide all of us toward having a more enriching year ahead.
“As we celebrate the arrival of this Lunar New Year, let us be mindful of those less fortunate in our community who need our sympathy, compassion and assistance.
“I ask all residents to be generous with their time and talents. It is up to all of us to strengthen our neighbourhoods and make our world-class city an even better place to call home.
“Once again, let me wish all Mississaugans a happy, healthy and prosperous Lunar New Year 2016.”
